Re: node: 2006 Democratic gains a repudiation of Bush administra

This argument is a gross oversimplification of the election. For exmaple, in Pennsylvania, did Santorum lose for being homophobic or did Casey when because he is pro-life and is acceptable to Catholics?

Club for Growth released a survey showing the public was tired of government doing too much.

At the micro - individual race - level, I wouldn't try to make the same argument. Each race had its own dynamics, and some of them - George Allen, for example - shouldn't have turned out the way they did, or at least nobody expected them to.

At the macro level, however, there were clearly undercurrents running against Bush, against Republicans and, more importantly, one-party rule.

(and for the record, I think for Santorum versus Casey, it's the latter. Much of the netroots was irritated that more liberal Dems were basically shut out. I live in Philly, so I followed this pretty closely)
