Re: node: Global Warming is of anthropogenic origin

"human origin" reads a little more user friendly

Good start

GeniusIknowit

I like how you're playing devil's advocate here.

Thanks for finally creating the thread, I don't have alot of time so it's tough for me to sit on a comp and pull all the info together to start a complex thread like this.

"this is for you Ulysses!!!)<--- yes I know this will be deleted lol"

mmmm, yup.

(I was waiting for someone to post this node)

btw - there will be news posted shortly regarding the Site Administrator role (my role), as well as new change logs tracking who did what, when in regard to administering Arguments

Cool. Is this to keep people accountable?

Re: comment: ...

yes, but just as importantly, being transparent to everybody that's not either the Argument Moderator or a Site Administrator

Re: node: Livestock is still the greatest contributor of CO2

The site is open to suggestions here

The thesis argues that Global Warming is of human origin.

You correctly assert that livestock is the largest contributor.

coolgeek points out both that the aggregation and enhancement of livestock are human inventions conducted for human benefit.

coolgeek's points did not challenge the validity of your node, but neither are they irrelevant, as they clearly support the thesis.

As such, your (duplicative) refutations cannot stand. So what do we do here?

Re: comment: Livestock is still the greatest contributor of CO2

It clearly does not support anything. Lets break it down, what does it support or refute? It's a con towards the assertion that livestock is the greatest contributor of CO2. If it is a con towards that, then it needs to address that point only, either refuting it, or changing the context.

So my point can either stand, his post can be removed, his argument can be restated, or his post can be placed in a differnt area in the argument.

Re: comment: Livestock is still the greatest contributor of CO2

"Livestock is artificially enhanced to more efficiently serve humans"

This is a valid supporting assertion. However, it is only valid when assessed independently of the whole argument.

The node it supports, however, is not valid. That node is a con towards livestock being the number one contributor of CO2. It is wholly innefective at addressing the node it is labeled a con under.

So, while, "Livestock is artificially enhanced to more efficiently serve humans", is valid to the node it supports, the node it supports is not valid.

Re: comment: Livestock is still the greatest contributor of CO2

Putting the node elsewhere in the Argument doesn't make sense, as it addresses the livestock node.

This type of situation came up in another Argument. I think that we need to add another node type that indicates a node that says "yeah, but..."

Re: node: Increase of global temperatures causes atmospheric CO2

According to Vostok ice core samples, temperatures rise an average of 800 years before C02 levels rise. This is due to the reduced solubility of CO2 in the ocean. As global temperatures rise (and thus ocean temperatures), gas solubility is decreased, causing CO2 to be released into the atmosphere. As ocean temperatures cool, CO2 is reabsorbed into the ocean. Atmospheric CO2 levels are a lagging proxy for ocean temperatures. Carbon dioxide does not accumulate in the atmosphere.
