There is value in maintaining family farming as a way of life in America, particularly as these farms are more likely to grow organic and/or heirloom varieties of produce.

Of course, this does not mean that subsidies should be applied to instances of market failure. If farms grow crops that the market does not in fact want, these failures should not be subsidized.
