Node Text: Forced conscription would have mostly negative consequences

Despite a boost in personnel, the actual quality of the conscripted soldier would not be equal to those who chose the military as their line of work ("Chose" excludes circumstances mitigated by class).

In addition, there are considerably more college-enrolled students currently than there were during the last draft, which has one of two results: 1) many otherwise eligible citizens would be excluded from the draft, or 2) the strong collegiate anti-war sentiment would disrupt the military from within.

Let us also consider that personnel require sustaining resources, and that an already strained-for-funds military could not possibly provide body armor, food, weapons, ammunition, quarters, and medical needs for an army gorged by draftees.
