Node Text: Insistence on equality fails to consider discriminatory histories

If progressive is defined as altering the status quo, considering these classifications is progressive

In response to the past injustices that occurred when these classifications were used for invidious purposes, society has evolved to erase these classifications from the decision-making process. Rather than create policies that welcome and embrace differences, policies aim to include everyone on a neutral basis. In order to treat everyone equally, these policies fail to consider the distinct histories of people affected by discrimination. Instead, these policies are created as if we live in a make-believe world, free of stereotypes, where everyone starts off on equal footing with similar advantages and privileges.
