Node Text: Electoral College is consistent with our government design.

Our legislative branch is composed of Senators - two per state, and Representatives - number determined by population. Our Founding Fathers did not want dense population areas completely overwhelming rural states. They did not want a powerful central government. They wanted most power distributed to the states and only limited powers given to the federal government. Thus statehood was given additional representation by all states being equal in the senate. The electoral college that elects the president was an extension of the same principal.
