Node Text: Women's Constitutional right to privacy permits abortions REGARDLESS of the reason

Because the baby is growing in her body and because there are a multitude of reasons a woman may not want to have a baby, significant weight needs to be given to the woman to decide whether or not she wants a baby. One cannot minimize the loss of power over one's body that exists if the choice to terminate a pregnancy is prohibited at all times for all reasons. The question is when, if ever, does a woman lose the power to control her body? Recognition of a power to govern one's own affairs without government interference has been called a "right to privacy." This right is said to be derived from the US Constitution, including the 1, 9, 10, and 14th Amendments
