Argument: Argument thesis  Social Security should not be privatized
Node type: Node supports parent assertion  This node supports its parent
Parent Node: Node supports parent assertion  Social Security is an insurance program, not an investment account
Node Text: There are already multiple privatized components of retirement income

Retirement income sources are often compared to a three-legged stool. The first leg represents an employer-sponsored program - most often a pension. The second leg represents Social Security benefits. The third leg represents personal savings.

The personal savings component, including tax-deferred programs - such as 401Ks and IRAs - as well as normal savings and investment accounts, are all privatized and provide wide - if not complete - latitude in individually determining risk tolerance and investment return.
